International Students

IBE welcomes students from around the world, whether now resident in the US or still living abroad.  There are some additional requirements for your application.

Non-US Transcripts

Applicants whose prior degree was at a non-US establishment must request an evaluation by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credentials Conductors (AICE).

 

The exception to this is for transcripts in Korean.  IBE has an internal transcript evaluator who is fluent in Korean and can translate the transcript into English.

 

This is an example of the process to follow:

 

• Research and select an evaluator. Consider whether you might need in-house translation services.

• Create an online account and fill out the application. Select a "Course-by-Course" evaluation report, which is standard for graduate admissions, and pay the required fee.

• Contact your prior institution and request official, sealed transcripts and degree certificates. They may have an online facility or you may need to contact them by phone or email.

• Ask for the transcript to be sent in English. If they cannot provide an English translation, you will need to request a translation from a professional, certified translator and include that in your submission to the evaluation company, or use the evaluator’s in-house translation services if available.

• Designate IBE graduate school to receive the official report directly

English Language Proficiency

An applicant whose native language is not English and who has not earned a degree from an appropriately accredited institution where English is the principal language of instruction must demonstrate college-level proficiency in English through one of the following:

 

• A minimum total score of 60 on the paper-delivered Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT),

• or 71 on the Internet Based Test (iBT);

• 6.5 on the International English Language Test (IELTS);

• 50 on the Pearson Test of English Academic Score Report;

• 100 on the Duolingo English Test;

• or 55 on the 4-skill Michigan English Test (MET),

• or 650/LP on the Michigan Examination for the Certificate of Competency in English (ECCE),

• or 650/LP on the Michigan Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE).
